Kärlek - John Hudak
John Hudak has been interested in sound
and music from the age of four when he
began to play a variety of instruments.
At the University of Delaware (BA,
English 1981) and Naropa Institute for
the Arts (1979), he studied video,
photography, creative writing and dance.
He then began to create taped soundtracks
for his solo performance art pieces. In
recent years, he has concentrated on
sound, particularly natural sounds.
Hudak's current sound work focuses on the
minimalism and repetition of sounds below
the usual threshold of hearing, sounds
that are filtered out or considered non-musical.
These sounds are recorded, deconstructed
and processed, their rhythms and textures
being the basis for aural manipulations.

Caligulan - Rapoon
Rapoon is the ethno-ambient solo project
of :zoviet*france: co-founder Robin
Storey, born in 1955 in Cumbria, Scotland.
While studying fine arts at Sunderland
University, he began pursuing a long-held
interest in sound manipulation by taking
classes in electronic and experimental
composition, additionally joining with
friends to perform the works of Karlheinz
Stockhausen (a key influence, as were the
Krautrock bands of the early 1970s). In
1979 Storey formed the pioneering
industrial group :zoviet*france:,
remaining a member until 1993; the year
previous, Storey issued the first Rapoon
album, Dream Circle, its entrancing
fusion of Indian ragas, African rhythms
and experimental textures anticipating
the evocative soundscapes of the many
releases to follow. Also a noted visual
artist, painter and animator, Storey's
work was exhibited throughout the world,
with two of his pieces on display at the
Berlin Museum of Modern Art.

08: Oakland Concréte -
Sutekh
Since 1997, Sutekh has released
consistently inconsistent electronic
music on local and international labels
Force Inc./Mille Plateaux, Source,
Background, Plug Research, Cytrax / Delay,
Tektite, and his own Context.
Manipulating computers, samplers,
synthesizers, ping pong tables, Scrabble
pieces, and found sounds, he has created
everything from minimal house and techno
to dense, dissonant noise collage. Unable
to explain his reasons for making such
music, he blankets himself with sarcasm.
People often have a difficult time
deciding whether or not he is serious.
Sutekh established Context Free Media and
its associated record label in 1999.
